Self-driving car coming soon

Sooner, rather than later.

Tesla Motors promises to have commercialized auto-pilot driving much sooner than the competition. And why not? Tesla was way ahead on 100% battery-driven performance vehicles also.

Also, see the article on the electrified highway - link in my Aug 15 post.

Electric Vehicle Charged by the Sun - EV by PV!

by David Byrne

More and more we are seeing dedicated parking spaces for Electric Vehicles, like these at the University of Central Florida.  Going a step further, this site includes Solar Photovoltaic (PV) electric generation, so you can charge your EV with PV!  Florida sunshine supplies the energy for up to 4 EVs while parked under this PV array, which is located on the east side of UCF's Memory Mall.

In addition to electric power for car charging, the PV arrays also provide shaded EV parking for much of the day -- a nice benefit during our hot weather!  No one's taking advantage at the time I took these pictures (the cars on either side are not in the dedicated spaces under the PV array) -- but it was an early on a summer morning while I was visit with my son Nathan for his student orientation, and the campus wasn't very busy.

I have another visit to UCF soon, and I promise to come back with more technical details on this project.
